Gaza interior ministry condemns assassination of Gaza police chief
GAZA, July 25 (YPA) – The Gaza-based Ministry od Interior and National Security condemned on Saturday the assassination pf Brig. Gen. Abdul Nasser Mohammed al-Muqadama, the director of the Northen Gaza Police Directorate, saying the Israeli occupation goes on to target key components of police operation in the Strip in an efforts to spread chaos.
In a news statement, the ministry said that al-Muqaddama, 54, was killed in an occupation airstrike targeting him in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City while carrying out his duties of serving civilians, assisting them, and maintaining security.
It noted that he continued performing his national duties throughout the ongoing aggression.
The ministry explained that al-Muqaddama had served in the Palestinian Police Force since its establishment in 1994 and held several positions in Northern Gaza, including director of Jabalia Refugee Camp Police, before assuming leadership of the provincial police directorate.
It said his assassination came as part of a deliberate the occupation campaign targeting police work, noting that 53 police commanders, officers, and personnel have been killed in direct attacks on police headquarters, patrols, vehicles, and personnel since the ceasefire agreement took effect last October.
The ministry called on the international community and mediating countries to take urgent action and pressure Israel to stop targeting the police force, describing it as a civilian institution protected under international law and one that plays a key role in maintaining security and managing civilian affairs in Gaza.
It added that the killing occurred less than two weeks after the massacre at the Jabalia refugee camp police station on July 14, which killed seven police officers and personnel, including the station director and his deputy, Lieutenant Colonel Yamen Mohammed Obeid, 48, who died this morning from severe injuries sustained in the attack.
The Ministry of Interior and National Security stressed that the police force would continue carrying out its duties of maintaining public security and protecting civil peace in the Gaza Strip, affirming its commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities despite the severe challenges.
