Armed group attacks driver from Hadramout in Abyan, prompting roadblock protests in Mukalla

ABYAN / MUKALLA, July 25 (YPA) – An armed group launched a violent assault on a passenger bus driver early Friday on the Ahwar coastal road in Abyan Governorate, severing his ear and leaving him critically injured.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Omar Jumaan Bin Khamis, was driving a passenger bus when he was severely beaten. The attackers shattered the vehicle’s windows and issued threats targeting residents of Hadramout before fleeing the scene.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and outrage across Hadramout Governorate, with local residents describing it as a dangerous precedent and a continuation of recurring security violations in the region.

In response, residents of the Al-Sharj area in Mukalla announced plans to block the main highway to commercial trucks and oil tankers traveling to and from Abyan, starting Saturday. Protesters are demanding immediate measures to secure the coastal road and ensure the safety of travelers.
