Mass rallies sweep southern Yemeni provinces against foreign guardianship, deteriorating conditions

ADEN / SOUTHERN PROVINCES, July 21 (YPA) – Widespread angry popular demonstrations broke out across most cities and districts in Yemen’s southern and eastern provinces on Tuesday, demanding an end to foreign guardianship and intervention, and protesting what demonstrators described as a “systematic war of services and starvation.”

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Aden, Mukalla, and Dhalea in Hadramout, as well as districts in Abyan, Hadibu, and the islands of Qalansiyah and Abd al-Kuri in Socotra. Demonstrators announced their categorical rejection of dominance projects and called for an end to Saudi guardianship.

Protesters raised banners condemning security chaos and campaigns of arrests targeting activists in Aden, while denouncing policies of starvation and economic collapse. They held the “Saudi Special Committee” directly responsible for managing these conditions.

Meanwhile, forces loyal to Saudi Arabia cracked down on the demonstration in Mukalla, blocking roads to limit access to Al-Khor Square and detaining hundreds at newly established military checkpoints. Despite these measures, participants continued their marches, chanting slogans demanding a definitive end to foreign guardianship.
