Sanaa FM reaffirms Saudi Arabia is main party to Yemen war

SANAA, July 18 (YPA) – Yemen’s Foreign Ministry in Sanaa has reiterated that Saudi Arabia is the principal party to the aggression on Yemen.

According to the Sanaa-based Saba News Agency, deputy foreign minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras, argued that the continued treatment of Riyadh by some members of the international community as a mediating party has prolonged the conflict and provided it with political cover to continue its military campaign and blockade.

He said that portraying Saudi Arabia as a mediator has contributed to its continued campaign against the Yemeni people, including imposing a blockade, causing civilian suffering, controlling the country’s resources, influencing its political decision-making, and exercising broad authority over national affairs.

“We have repeatedly warned and made it clear over the past years that Saudi Arabia is the aggressor and the party responsible for the war,” Abu Ras said. “However, some actors chose to provide it with political cover, thereby becoming complicit in its actions and the continuation of the conflict in Yemen.”

He added that any party seeking to play a constructive role in the Yemeni file should recognize that Saudi Arabia is the belligerent party and, as he put it, controls Yemen’s border crossings, resources, political decision-making, and other key sectors—an assessment he said was also outlined by the revolutionary leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi in a recent speech.

Abu Ras further stated that anyone wishing to contribute positively to resolving the conflict should acknowledge this reality. Referring to Saudi-backed Yemeni factions, he said they could participate alongside Saudi Arabia in any future understandings or negotiations on various issues.
