Hezbollah denies US claims of presence or activity in Syria

BEIRUT, July 16 (YPA) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Thursday categorically denied U.S. allegations regarding any activity or deployment by the group inside Syrian territory, saying the claims have no basis and are aimed at tarnishing its image and serving Israeli and American agendas in the region.

In a statement, Hezbollah said reports about its presence or operations in Syria are fabricated narratives with no factual basis.

The statement stressed that it has no military presence or activity inside Syria, describing the repeated accusations as part of political and media campaigns targeting it.

It said the allegations seek to damage its reputation and provide justification for what it described as a U.S.-Israeli project, amid ongoing political and security developments in the region.

The statement came following renewed U.S. accusations regarding Hezbollah’s activities in Syria, days after U.S. President Donald Trump said the Lebanon file would be handed over to Syria, noting that the new Syrian government would have an important role in managing Lebanese affairs.

The developments have raised questions about the next phase of regional relations, particularly amid growing discussions over a potential role for Damascus in Lebanese affairs, alongside continued tensions between Washington and Tehran and mutual accusations over influence and movements in the region.
