Protests erupt in Sayoun over economic deterioration; demonstrators demand exit of Saudi forces

HADRAMOUT, July 16 (YPA) – A wave of angry protests swept through the city of Sayoun in Hadramout Governorate on Wednesday, with demonstrators denouncing the catastrophic collapse of living conditions, acute shortages of domestic gas, and soaring fuel prices.

Protesters carried banners condemning the ongoing depletion of local natural resources by Saudi-backed forces. They accused the local authority, along with the Islah and General People’s Congress (GPC) parties, of exploiting the governorate’s resources for personal and factional interests while ignoring the worsening crisis in basic public services.

The demonstrators demanded an end to what they described as “Saudi tutelage and occupation,” calling for the immediate withdrawal of Saudi forces and “emergency security” factions loyal to Saudi Arabia. They emphasized that the public’s patience in Hadramout has run out in the face of systematic impoverishment and resource depletion.
