Hamas welcomes Irish law banning imports from Israeli settlements

Gaza, July 09 (YPA) – Palestine’s Hamas Movement welcomed the Irish Parliament’s approval on Wednesday of a law banning the import of goods produced in Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land in the West Bank.

In a statement, the movement described the legislation as “a genuine expression of the Irish people’s long-standing support for the justice of our national cause and a historic decision that is consistent with international law, which affirms the illegality of settlements.”

The movement added that the law confirms that any trade in settlement products contributes to entrenching the occupation and its violations against the Palestinian people.

It called on parliaments around the world to adopt similar legislation to boycott Israel and prohibit dealings with the illegal settlement enterprise, saying such measures would help deepen Israeli occupation’s international isolation, hold its leaders accountable for crimes and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, and support Palestinians in achieving their legitimate national rights.
