Saada court upholds death sentences for seven convicted of spying

SAADA, July 08 (YPA) – The Court of Appeals in Saada province, north of Yemen, on Wednesday upheld a lower court ruling sentencing seven defendants to death after they were convicted of espionage on behalf of countries belonging to the Saudi-led coalition.

The appeals court affirmed the convictions and upheld the death sentences, ordering that the defendants be executed by firing squad in a public place, according to the court’s verdict.

Prosecutors had accused the seven men of collaborating with countries in the Saudi-led coalition and individuals working on their behalf in a manner that, according to the indictment, harmed the political and military interests of the Republic of Yemen.

The ruling was issued during a session chaired by Judge Suleiman Al-Shamiri, with Judges Ali Al-Shajni and Amir Al-Din Sari presiding, in the presence of Chief Appeals Prosecutor Ibrahim Jahiz and Prosecutor Abdulmalik Al-Ansi.
