TEHRAN, July 05 (YPA) – The Iranian capital, Tehran, witnessed massive funeral prayers for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and members of his family at the Imam Khomeini Musalla (prayer hall).
The funeral prayers were led by senior cleric Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani.
Millions of mourners filled the Imam Khomeini Musalla, as well as the surrounding squares and streets, after arriving from across Iran’s provinces before dawn to take part in the funeral.
Participants carried portraits of Sayyed Ali Khamenei, Iranian flags and black mourning banners, while chanting slogans affirming their commitment to the path he had upheld throughout his life.
Three of the martyred leader’s sons—Mostafa, Masoud, and Maysam—stood in the front row of mourners offering prayers over the bodies of their father and other family members. It was their first public appearance since the US-Israeli war on Iran began on February 28.
The heads of the three branches of government, namely President Masoud Pezeshkian, Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, were also present in the front row, alongside other officials.
The massive turnout underscored a strong public support for the leadership of the Islamic Republic, saying Khamenei’s death would reinforce Iran’s commitment to its core principles, including national independence, support for regional causes, and opposition to the United States and “Israel.”
