Obama slams Trump’s policy toward Iran

WASHINGTON, July 01 (YPA) –Former US President Barack Obama sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s policy toward Iran, arguing that Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal enabled Tehran to expand its nuclear capabilities.

“There was a deal in place in which Iran had agreed not to develop nuclear weapons that the entire international community, including Israeli intelligence, our own intelligence agencies, assessed was working,” Obama said during a televised interview on Tuesday.

He added, “This administration, or a prior version of this administration, pulled out of it, which caused then Iran to develop more nuclear capacity.”

Obama continued: “We’ve now fought a war, spent billions and billions of dollars, put enormous strain on our military. A lot of people have died.”

He concluded by saying that “it feels like we’re back where we were before we started the war—except maybe a little bit worse off. ”
