Aden faces 18-hour daily power outages amidst soaring summer temperatures

ADEN, June 28 (YPA) – A severe electricity crisis has gripped the southern Yemeni city of Aden and neighboring governorates under the Saudi control, with power outages reaching up to 18 hours a day amid soaring summer temperatures and a persistent deficit in generation capacity.

Under the current rolling blackout schedule, residents receive only two hours of electricity for every nine consecutive hours of outage, sparking widespread public anger.

Intermittent protests have escalated since early June across Aden, Hadramout, Lahj, and Mocha, with demonstrators denouncing the collapse of basic services. Despite being rich in oil resources, Hadramout faces similar sweeping blackouts, intensifying public dissatisfaction with the Saudi-backed government’s handling of the service sector.

Local activists have criticized official promises to resolve the crisis as ineffective, while public demands remain focused on securing immediate fuel supplies for power plants and implementing long-term structural solutions to end the ongoing humanitarian hardship.
