MAHRA, June 27 (YPA) – A large protest rally on Saturday was held on Wednesday in Al-Ghaydah, the capital of Mahra province demanding urgent action to address worsening electricity shortages, which have reportedly reached more than 15 hours of daily outages.
The demonstration took place amid a broader deterioration in basic services and rising temperatures, with residents expressing frustration over the lack of effective response from the authorities.
Protesters marched through the city chanting slogans calling for improved electricity services and criticizing the continued service collapse.
They also carried banners blaming the authorities for financial and administrative mismanagement and the ongoing hardship faced by residents across several areas.
The protest comes as part of a wider wave of demonstrations in provinces of Aden and Hadramout in recent weeks, reflecting growing public anger over deteriorating living conditions and repeated service failures.
Residents said prolonged power cuts have had serious health impacts, particularly on children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups, while also contributing to the spread of heat-related illnesses.
