TEHRAN, June 26 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei criticized the United States on Friday over its stance on global hunger, arguing that Washington should address food insecurity within its own borders before criticizing other countries.
In a post on the X platform, Baghaei said that “charity begins at home,” asserting that millions of Americans continue to face food insecurity.
Citing figures he attributed to hunger and food security reports, Baghaei claimed that more than 47 million people in the United States, including one in five children, lack consistent access to adequate and nutritious food.
He added that the number of Americans experiencing food insecurity has increased in recent years.
The Iranian official also referenced findings by the organization Feeding America, saying the reports highlight the social and health consequences of hunger affecting millions of Americans.
Baghaei further criticized U.S. authorities, alleging that the discontinuation of a longstanding federal report on household food insecurity amounted to ignoring the problem rather than addressing it.
He concluded by arguing that Washington should focus on domestic challenges before commenting on hunger issues in other countries.
