Protesters block major roads in Mukalla amid rising anger over service collapse

HADRAMOUT, June 25 (YPA) – Dozens of protesters blocked major roads and streets in Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s oil-rich Hadramout province, on Tuesday, amid rising public anger over deteriorating living conditions and the collapse of basic services.

According to local sources, demonstrators closed key roads in the Al-Dais area near Mukalla, halting the movement of trucks and transport vehicles. Eyewitnesses stated the move was aimed at expressing outrage over ongoing electricity cuts, worsening fuel shortages, the lack of household gas, and increasing insecurity across the province.

The protests are part of a wave of demonstrations that began earlier this month, fueled by a “total breakdown” in public services. Some protesters have also called for the expulsion of Saudi-backed government authorities.

Residents of Hadramaut continue to face severe economic crises, alleging they are deprived of oil revenues which are instead diverted to influential figures aligned with Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.
