Saudi-backed forces’ bullets put “Yemenia” plane out of service in Aden
ADEN, June 21 (YPA) – An aircraft belonging to Yemenia Airways sustained severe damage that put it completely out of service for several days, after being struck by stray bullets fired by Saudi-backed forces in Aden city in southern Yemen.
Informed sources confirmed that the random gunfire occurred as forces dispersed demonstrators loyal to the “dissolved” UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) last Saturday at Al-Aroudh Square in the Khormaksar district, which also resulted in injuries among several protesters.
The stray bullets hit the aircraft while it was parked on the runway at Aden Airport, necessitating urgent maintenance work and a final damage assessment by specialized engineering teams.
This comes amid ongoing military tensions between Riyadh-backed factions and their UAE-aligned counterparts in the southern and eastern regions of Yemen.
