Tehran updates indirect talks with Washington, highlights Qatar’s mediation role

TEHRAN, June 14 (YPA) – Iran’s Fars News Agency revealed on Sunday new developments regarding indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, as well as the reasons behind the presence of a Qatari delegation in Tehran.

Citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, the agency reported that the Qatari delegation is currently in Tehran, acting as a mediator by conveying Iran’s detailed positions and reservations to the other side through its mediation role.

The agency confirmed that no final agreement has been reached so far, noting that indirect talks with Washington continue to fluctuate between progress and setbacks without resolving key outstanding issues.

it stressed that Tehran’s main criterion in any potential agreement is the full inclusion of all its demands and conditions in the final text, reaffirming Iran’s consistent stance on securing essential points, regardless of the ups and downs of the negotiation process.

Regarding timing, the agency stated that even if all Iranian remarks and demands are accepted, no agreement will be signed within the timeframe previously mentioned by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

These developments come amid rapidly evolving political events that coincided with the Israeli occupation strike carried out on Sunday afternoon against a residential building in the Al-Ghobeiry area in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Following the attack, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated in a post on X that the Israeli strike on the suburb once again demonstrates, in his view, the United States’ inability or unwillingness to fulfill its commitments.

It added in a message to Washington that “if there is no will or capacity to honor commitments, then there can be no talk of progress in negotiations.”

In the same context, the spokesperson of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Rezaei, said that any path toward understanding or agreement cannot be achieved without deterring Israeli occupation, warning that any agreement without this could negatively affect Iran immediately after its conclusion.
