Sanaa FM discusses cooperation, peace efforts with UN envoy’s office

SANAA, June 13 (YPA) – Sanaa -based deputy foreign minister Abdul Wahid Abu Ras met with Mohammed Al-Ghannam, director of the office of the UN special envoy to Yemen, to discuss cooperation between the two sides.

During the meeting, Abu Ras rejected recent statements by the UN Security Council and comments attributed to the UN Secretary-General concerning detained UN staff accused in espionage-related cases, stressing that the issue is being addressed in line with Yemeni law and established judicial procedures to protect the country’s sovereignty and security.

He said external pressure would not alter Sanaa’s position, warning that such actions could negatively affect relations with the United Nations and undermine efforts to rebuild trust.

Abu Ras also praised the role of the UN envoy’s office in facilitating the prisoner exchange agreement, reaffirming Sanaa’s commitment to implementing the deal and providing the necessary support for its success.

He called for a more active UN role in advancing the peace process through practical confidence-building measures and steps toward a comprehensive settlement to end Yemen’s prolonged humanitarian crisis.

For his part, Mohammed Al-Ghannam reaffirmed the continuation of international efforts aimed at supporting peace in Yemen.
