Sayoun braces for total civil disobedience, escalating protests over service collapse

HADRAMOUT, June 10 (YPA) – Popular protests are expanding across Hadramout governorate in eastern Yemen.

A comprehensive civil disobedience campaign has been announced for tomorrow, Thursday, from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Saudi-controlled city of Sayoun. The strike will entail closing all commercial shops and suspending work in both public and private sectors, following the killing of youth Manaf Al-Sayari and the wounding of his brother by Saudi-backed forces.

Protest organizers have called on employees and business owners to gather Thursday morning at the Sayoun Palace Square, to be followed by a massive public rally on Friday afternoon launching from the “Bin Habrish” roundabout.

This escalation comes as a direct response to an unprecedented deterioration in living conditions, the continuous collapse of the electricity grid, acute fuel shortages coupled with skyrocketing prices, and surging inflation.

This coincides with ongoing protests for the fourth consecutive day across Mukalla, Sayoun, Tarim, and Shihr. Demonstrators have blocked the international highway linking Hadramout and Mahra heading toward the Sultanate of Oman, denouncing the complete disregard for their demands by the Saudi-backed government and the “Saudi Special Committee” managing the file.
