Knesset passes first reading to dissolve itself ahead of early elections

OCCUPIED QUDS, June 02 (YPA) – The Israeli Knesset passed a bill in its first reading late last night to dissolve its 25th assembly, with an overwhelming majority of 106 votes.

This pivotal step inches the occupation entity closer to early legislative elections, pending the bill’s approval in its second and third readings.

The vote followed the Knesset Committee’s approval to refer the bill to the plenum. According to the draft legislation, the potential election date is slated between September 8 and October 20, while the governing coalition has deferred its final decision on the exact date until prior to the final votes.

Meanwhile, the Central Elections Committee confirmed its logistical readiness to conduct the polls within less than 90 days of the official dissolution, while preferring a window of at least 83 days. However, it cautioned against technical complexities should the election dates coincide with Jewish holidays, particularly in mid-September.
