Iran complains to UN Security Council following US strike on Lark Island

NEW YORK, Sept. 01 (YPA) – Iran has formally notified the UN Security Council of its strong condemnation of a recent US military strike on Lark Island in the Gulf, calling the operation a flagrant violation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the UN Charter.

In a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council President, Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that US forces launched a military strike on Lark Island on Sunday evening, August 30.

According to the letter, the attack resulted in the death and injury of several Iranians—including military personnel and civilians—and damaged public and private property.

Darzi added that Tehran considers the strike an unlawful act of aggression in direct violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4, of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The Iranian diplomat further noted that, exercising its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Iranian Armed Forces conducted proportionate defensive strikes targeting US military bases in Jordan used to launch operations against Iran.
