Taipei
TAIPEI, June 02 (YPA) – Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense announced on Tuesday that two pilots were killed when a military training aircraft crashed during an exercise that simulated an engine failure.
According to the ministry, the T-34 training aircraft went down at almost 8:00 a.m. on the runway of Gangshan Air Base in the southern city of Kaohsiung.
Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te expressed sorrow over the incident and described the pilots as “heroes.”
The Air Force has established an investigation team to determine the cause of the crash, but no additional details have been released.
The accident followed several recent military aviation incidents in Taiwan, including the crash of an F-16 Fighting Falcon during a training mission earlier this year.
