IRGC targets US-owned vessel in response to attack on Iranian ship

TEHRAN, June 02 (YPA) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its naval forces targeted the U.S.-owned vessel “MSC Sariska” with a cruise missile,

In a statement, the IRGC described the action as a response to a U.S. attack on the Iranian ship “Lian Star” in the Sea of Oman.

The statement warned that any action by U.S. forces in the region would be met with a decisive response, emphasizing its readiness to confront further escalation.

Earlier, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced that all commercial vessels and oil tankers seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz must use designated shipping corridors and obtain authorization from the IRGC Navy before passage.

The headquarters warned that any violation of these regulations could jeopardize the safety and security of maritime transit in the strategic waterway.

The announcement followed Iran’s declaration on May 21 of a “maritime control zone” in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran said the zone extends between points linking the Iranian and Emirati coastlines on both the eastern and western approaches to the strait, forming part of its broader maritime security measures.
