Two militants killed in clash with Iranian security forces in Azerbaijan

TEHRAN, May 30 (YPA) – The Iranian Border Guard Command announced that two suspected militants were killed during an armed confrontation with a hostile group in the Chaldoran district of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, Border Guard Commander Ali Akbar Javidan said the group attempted to attack a border guard unit late Friday night, but security forces detected the move and responded with heavy gunfire.

Javidan stated that two members of the group were killed during the clash, while preliminary investigations indicate that several others were wounded and fled across the border into a neighboring country.

He added that security forces seized an M16 rifle, five ammunition magazines, two hand grenades, a mobile phone, and a backpack containing personal equipment.

The commander emphasized that Iranian border guards remain committed to safeguarding the country’s borders and confronting security threats
