Protests escalate in Damascus against expropriation law, bulldozing of residents’ lands

DAMASCUS, May 24 (YPA) – Residents of Damascus countryside held protest demonstrations rejecting the expropriation law and land bulldozing operations, demanding its cancellation and an immediate halt to its implementation.

The protesters in Al-Saboura area and the villages of Wadi Barada raised slogans affirming their commitment to their land and their rejection of any concessions or new transactions, considering the policy of promises no longer effective.

The moves come amid fears of large-scale land confiscation within ongoing expropriation projects, following a similar sit-in organized by residents of Al-Saboura last month, who vowed to continue protesting until the procedures are halted.
