Aden Governor: Yemen unity remains “people’s will,” not political option

ADEN, May 23 (YPA) – Aden Governor Ali Al-Azibi, affiliated with the Sana’a government said Yemen’s reunification was not a political option that leaders could overlook or evade, but the collective will of one people extending from the country’s far south to its far north.

He said Yemenis moved to restore national unity and strengthen social cohesion, ultimately declaring “one republic in one homeland.”

Speaking on the occasion of Yemen’s 36th Unity Day anniversary, Aden Governor Ali Al-Azibi accused political figures of abandoning the people’s aspirations and exploiting Yemeni unity for political and personal gain.

He added that these actions had deepened divisions and contributed to what he described as southern grievances stemming from abuses of rights and internal conflict.

Al-Azibi said Aden was at the forefront of efforts to achieve Yemeni unity and had paid a heavy price in pursuit of what he described as a deeply rooted national aspiration.

He said the realization of unity placed Aden and Sana’a “like two eyes in one head,” according to the state-run Saba News Agency.

Al-Azibi said separatist groups had since sought to undermine Aden’s role in supporting Yemeni unity, accusing them of fueling crises and injustices without regard for national responsibility.

Despite the hardships, he said the Yemeni people had remained committed to the dream of unity and continued to demand justice and compensation.

Concluding his statement, Al-Azibi said the dream of a unified Yemen “remains and will continue to remain a reality” as the country marks the 36th anniversary of unification.

He added that separatist groups which once dominated the political scene and conspired against unity had ultimately proven temporary, accusing them of harming Aden and undermining Yemen’s deeply rooted national identity.
