Governors of southern provinces reaffirm commitment to Yemeni unity

SANAA, May 22 (YPA) – The governors of four southern and eastern Yemeni provinces have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to Yemeni unity, recognizing it as a historic achievement and a vital safeguard for the nation’s geography and identity.

They emphasized that unity reflects the genuine popular will and rejects any attempts at division and fragmentation.

Marking the 36th National Day of the Republic of Yemen on May 22, the governors of Hadramout, Dhalea, Shabwah, and Lahj condemned Saudi Arabia and the UAE for executing destructive colonial schemes under the direct oversight of the United States and Britain. Furthermore, they stated that these schemes aim to exploit Yemen’s sovereign and oil resources while perpetuating division and undermining social cohesion in these provinces. Consequently, they called for comprehensive resistance and a popular uprising as the national response to expel foreign occupiers.

Hadramout governor Luqman Barras highlighted that the unity achieved on May 22, 1990, fulfills the aspirations of all Yemenis and serves as a protective shield against divisive plots. In addition, he noted that ongoing attacks on unity are part of deliberate colonial agendas by Saudi and Emirati forces, backed by Western powers, seeking to fracture society and control Yemen’s wealth. Therefore, Barras urged all national factions, tribes, and communities to unite behind the revolutionary leadership and called for a broad popular uprising to restore full independence and sovereignty.

Meanwhile, acting governor of Dhalea, Abdul Latif al-Shugdari, described Yemeni unity as a monumental national achievement that must be preserved. He stressed that conspiracies aimed at undermining unity will fail, reaffirming the commitment of Dhalea’s people to national cohesion and their continued resistance against colonial ambitions. Moreover, Al-Shugdari emphasized that Yemen’s unity is incompatible with dependence on external powers and reiterated Dhalea’s historic role as a bastion against division.

Similarly, Shabwa governor, Awad al-Awlaki, characterized unity as the true will of the Yemeni people and an irreversible national choice born from sacrifices across the country. He underscored unity as essential for social stability, development, and building a strong, independent Yemen capable of confronting challenges. At the same time, Al-Awlaki condemned ongoing foreign and internal conspiracies against unity and called on all Yemenis to actively defend the homeland.

Governor of Lahj, Ahmed Gharib, a member of Ansar Allah’s political bureau, also emphasized that Yemeni unity is rooted deeply in history and identity, having withstood powerful empires and divisive schemes. Moreover, he linked unity to Yemen’s revolutions and independence struggles, calling unity the inevitable destiny of the nation.

Gharib warned against attempts to reverse progress and stressed that national dialogue based on justice and partnership is the only path to resolving grievances, while rejecting external interference.

He further reaffirmed Yemen’s unity across all regions and vowed to defend it until full victory and freedom are achieved.

Together, these governors underscored that Yemeni unity remains a vital national asset, central to resisting foreign occupation, preserving sovereignty, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all Yemenis.
