Hezbollah rejects US measures against party and Amal-linked figures

BEIRUT, May 21 (YPA) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah stated on Thursday that the sanctions imposed by the U.S. Departments of State and Treasury on Lebanese lawmakers, officers, and officials affiliated with Hezbollah and the Amal Movement represent an attempt to pressure the Lebanese people and influence their national and political choices.

In a statement, Hezbollah said the measures were intended to strengthen what it described as Israeli aggression against Lebanon and to provide political support to Israel following what it called the failure of military pressure to deter Lebanese resistance.

The statement added that the U.S. accusations against its members and officials were linked to their refusal to disarm the resistance and their opposition to initiatives that Hezbollah says seek to impose surrender-oriented policies serving Israeli interests.

According to the statement, the sanctions would not affect the party’s political positions or the activities of its officials, describing the measures as a reflection of continued support for the resistance option.

It also argued that targeting Lebanese military and security officers ahead of meetings at the Pentagon amounted to pressure on Lebanon’s official institutions and an attempt to subject the country to external influence.

The statement called on the Lebanese state to safeguard its constitutional, military, and security institutions while preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and national dignity.
