DAMASCUS, May 19 (YPA) – A powerful explosion rocked the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Tuesday near the Armaments Administration of the Weapons Management Center at the Ministry of Defense, amid conflicting accounts regarding its nature and the extent of the damage.
A military source told Reuters that an explosive device planted inside a car detonated near the site, triggering a security alert, and Syrian media reported the death of a soldier and injuries to others.
SANA merely indicated hearing the explosion and confirmed that the relevant authorities were investigating its circumstances, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it heard a loud bang coinciding with heavy gunfire, noting initial reports of injuries without an official count.
The incident comes amid ongoing security tensions in the capital and a recent spate of attacks targeting sensitive sites.
