Health official warns of catastrophe due to ongoing blockade on Sanaa Airport

SANAA, May 18 (YPA) – Ebrahim Abu Talib, Director of Drug Stock at the Supreme Board for Medicines in Sanaa, has warned of severe consequences of the ongoing air blockade on Sana’a International Airport, saying it could trigger a health catastrophe that threatens the lives of thousands of patients in Yemen.

In a statement to Almasirah, Abu Talib explained that the authority is facing major difficulties in providing refrigerated medicines for cancer, kidney failure, and chronic disease patients.

He noted that over 40% of medicines previously entering via Sanaa Airport are now unavailable in the local market.

Abu Talib added that the ongoing air restrictions imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on Sana’a International Airport have further worsened the deteriorating health situation, stressing reopening Sanaa Airport is a humanitarian right guaranteed by international law and should not be viewed as a privilege granted by any party.

He held the international community responsible for worsening health conditions due to the ongoing blockade on Sanaa International Airport.
