Mass rallies held across US cities to mark 78th anniversary of Palestinian Nakba

NEW YORK, May 17 (YPA) – Several American cities witnessed large marches and public gatherings on Saturday night marking the 78th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, with thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets in New York City, Washington, and other cities across the United States.

Participants waved Palestinian flags and symbols associated with the right of return while chanting slogans in support of the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, in one of the largest Nakba-related mobilizations this year.

In New York, demonstrators gathered at Washington Square Park before the march began. Speeches and chants focused on the ongoing war in Gaza, solidarity with Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and drew connections between the displacement of Palestinians in 1948 and current events in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Many protesters also carried symbolic keys representing the right of return, one of the most widely recognized symbols of the Nakba.

In Washington, rallies and marches took place near the White House, bringing together Palestinians and supporters from different backgrounds who called for an end to the war in Gaza and the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The demonstrations were part of broader international events commemorating the Nakba anniversary and calling for continued public and political pressure in support of Palestinian rights.
