GAZA, May 17 (YPA) – The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, announced on Saturday that it will hold a second round of elections to choose a new leader after the first round of internal elections failed to produce a clear winner.
In a brief press statement, Hamas said that the first round of elections for the movement’s leader concluded without any candidate securing a majority, necessitating a second round in accordance with the movement’s internal regulations.
Hamas did not disclose the names of the candidates vying for the position, nor did it specify a date for the second round, simply confirming that the electoral process would be completed at a later time.
The announcement of a second round comes amid significant political and media interest in the developments within Hamas’s leadership structure, particularly given the rapidly evolving situation in the Palestinian arena and the challenges posed by the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
