Sanaa Agricultural Union: Targeting local production is an “economic crime”

SANAA, April 27 (YPA) – The Agricultural Cooperative Union in Sanaa issued a stern warning this Sunday against any attempts to circumvent policies aimed at reducing the import bill.

In an official statement, the Union categorized the targeting of local goods through the influx of foreign products as an “economic crime” that directly undermines national interests and strategic self-sufficiency goals.

The Union emphasized that opening markets to unregulated imports poses a direct threat to the livelihoods of farmers and stifles the growth of the agricultural sector.

Furthermore, the statement clarified that shifting away from import dependency is a non-negotiable strategic choice essential for strengthening economic resilience and transitioning toward a productive national economy.

Concluding its statement, the Union called upon all relevant authorities to strictly adhere to import regulations and block foreign products that have local alternatives. Protecting domestic production was highlighted as a shared national responsibility, crucial for ensuring food security and achieving long-term economic stability amidst current challenges.
