Assassination of leader in Islah Party in Aden, sparks mutual accusations between rival factions
ADEN, April 26 (YPA) – Abdulrahman Abdulwahab Al-Shaer, a prominent academic and leader within the Islah Party, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen on Saturday in Al-Mansoura district of Aden province, southern Yemen.
Al-Shaer, who headed the board of ‘Al-Nawras Private Schools’, was targeted in the Kabota area while en route to a school sporting event.
According to local sources, gunmen opened fire on Al-Shaer’s vehicle before fleeing to an unknown location.
Local authorities in Aden have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the assassination.
The killing has triggered a wave of mutual accusations. While Islah supporters point to the security vacuum, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) activists have alleged the incident was an internal “clearance of accounts” by Islah to divert attention from recent US threats to designate the party as a terrorist organization.
