Pezeshkian: Tabas anniversary reflects supremacy of divine will over US military power
TEHRAN, April 25 (YPA) – Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday that the anniversary of the failed U.S. military operation in Tabas in 1980 reflected the “supremacy of divine will” over material power.
In a post on the platform X, Pezeshkian said that April 25 made a historic moment in which the United States suffered defeat in the Tabas desert, adding that the incident carries broader significance beyond its military dimension.
He noted that recent developments—referencing events in southern Isfahan—have evoked parallels with that episode, stressing that “its lessons remain relevant.”
Pezeshkian also expressed hope that such events would serve as a lesson for what he termed “arrogant powers” worldwide.
The incident refers to Operation Eagle Claw, a U.S. mission launched on April 25, 1980 to rescue hostages in Tehran, which ended in failure after aircraft collided, resulting in the deaths of eight American servicemen in the Tabas desert in northeastern Iran.
