HAVANA, April 17 (YPA) – Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has officially warned of the possibility of a US military attack on Cuba, urging citizens to be ready for war.
He made the remarks during a rally Havana, marking the 65th anniversary of the failed US invasion of the island at the Bay of Pigs.
“We don’t want that war but it is our duty to be ready to avoid it, and if it were unavoidable, to win it,” Diaz-Canel said during the rally.
He said Cuba is facing difficult conditions and called on citizens to remain ready in the event of a potential invasion, referring to what he described as “multifaceted aggressive policies” by the United States, which he blamed for the country’s economic crisis.
The Cuban leader also pointed to previous measures taken by US President Donald Trump, including tariffs on imports from countries supplying Cuba with oil, as well as earlier remarks expressing US interest in Cuba after addressing other international issues.
Díaz-Canel concluded by reaffirming that Cuba would resist any potential attack, saying that if such a scenario occurred, there would be confrontation and resistance, and the country would defend itself “even if death is the outcome.”
