TEHRAN, April 16 (YPA) – Mohsen Rezaei, the military advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader affirmed that Tehran will not give up its stance on the Strait of Hormuz until it restores its legitimate rights, emphasizing that Iran is prepared for a long-term war with the United States.
In remarks to media, Rezaei said that Iran is “fully prepared for a prolonged war and capable of managing it,” adding that, unlike the United States—which he said is wary of extended conflict.
He added that Tehran is now defining the terms of the current negotiations, unlike in previous rounds.
Commenting on maritime security, Rezaei questioned the US narrative about Iran’s naval capabilities, asking: “If, as they claim, Iran’s navy has been destroyed, why does the United States avoid crossing the Strait of Hormuz?”
He described the strait as a “red line” in the ongoing confrontation.
Regarding the political process, he emphasized the importance of carefully drafting any future agreements, with particular focus on economic issues, while drawing lessons from past negotiations.
The remarks come amid rising tensions following US President Donald Trump’s April 12 announcement of a comprehensive maritime blockade on Iranian ports, after the collapse of the “Islamabad Talks,” which failed to produce an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
