Scattered rain hits Sanaa as Meteorology Center warns of flash floods, rockslides

SANAA April 10 (YPA) – The capital, Sanaa, its outskirts, and several other governorates experienced scattered rainfall on Friday evening.

The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning expects these weather conditions to persist over the next 24 hours, with thundery rain of varying intensity forecast across the mountain highlands—stretching from Saada in the north to Taiz and Lahj in the south—extending to the western coasts and the Tihama plain.

Key warnings issued by the National Center:

For Citizens: The Center urged caution regarding thunderstorms and flash floods in ravines and valleys, warning against staying in or crossing flood-prone areas and valley streams during and after rainfall.

For Road Users: Warnings were issued regarding potential rockslides and mudslides on mountain roads, as well as reduced horizontal visibility due to rain and fog formation.

Desert Regions: The Center noted that weather in desert areas will remain clear and hot, with maximum temperatures ranging between 35-38°C, accompanied by moderate winds that may occasionally stir up dust and sand.
