HADRAMOUT, March 30 (YPA) – Dozens of citizens staged a protest on Monday in the city of Al-Shihr, Hadramout governorate in eastern Yemen, demanding the release of several detainees held in Saudi-run prisons who remain imprisoned despite judicial acquittals.
Protesters highlighted the case of Suroor Saeed Abdullah al-Obaidi and his companions, who have reportedly been detained for nearly 10 years without the enforcement of court-ordered releases.
The detainees’ families expressed outrage over the continued detention and the ambiguity surrounding the charges against their relatives after they were cleared by the judiciary.
Protesters condemned the ongoing imprisonment as a flagrant violation of international human rights laws and conventions.
They called for the unconditional release of the detainees and demanded a swift investigation to hold those responsible for the prolonged arbitrary detention accountable.
