MOSCOW, March 30 (YPA) – Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that authorities have decided to expel a diplomat from the UK embassy in Moscow amid accusations of espionage.
In an official statement, the ministry said investigations revealed that the diplomat was allegedly working for British intelligence services.
It also confirmed that the British Embassy’s chargé d’affaires in Moscow, Danai Dholakia, was summoned to the ministry, where she was handed a formal note of protest regarding the incident.
According to the statement, the diplomat had provided inaccurate information upon entering the country, which was deemed a violation of Russian law.
Russian authorities further claimed the individual was linked to British intelligence and accused him of engaging in “subversive activities” within Russia. His diplomatic accreditation has been revoked, and he has been ordered to leave the country.
Moscow emphasized that it would not tolerate covert activities by British intelligence on its territory and would continue taking necessary measures to safeguard its national security.
It also warned that it may respond to any actions by the UK that could escalate tensions between the two countries.
