Israeli warplanes expand their aggression, targeting Lebanese army in Sidon

BEIRUT, March 28 (YPA) – The Lebanese Army Command announced on Saturday the death of a Lebanese soldier in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Deir Zahrani, near Sidon in southern Lebanon.

This direct attack comes amid escalating Israeli aggression against Lebanon, with warplanes and heavy artillery continuing to bombard southern villages and towns intensively, raising tensions on the ground to unprecedented levels.

A direct attack on national sovereignty

The Lebanese Army Command stated that the airstrike on Deir Zahrani caused significant damage, noting that targeting members of the Lebanese military constitutes a dangerous escalation in the rules of engagement.

Immediately after the airstrike, rescue units were deployed to the scene, while Israeli reconnaissance aircraft continued their intensive flights over Sidon and southern Lebanon.

Southern Lebanon under relentless bombardment

This development coincides with the ongoing large-scale Israeli offensive in southern Lebanon, where border villages and areas close to the Lebanese border are subjected to continuous shelling targeting residential neighborhoods and infrastructure, leading to a massive exodus of residents towards safer areas in Beirut and the north.
