Head of Earthquake Center reveals cause of ground cracks in Taiz

DHAMAR, March. 28 (YPA) – Engineer Mohammed Hussein Mutahhar Al-Houthi, head of the Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring and Study Center, explained that the ground cracks that appeared in Jabal Habashi district in Taiz governorate are a result of the heavy rainfall and flash floods after a period of drought, and not due to tectonic activity.

Al-Houthi indicated that monitoring stations did not record any local earthquakes from within Yemeni territory or from Taiz, where the cracks appeared.

He noted that the phenomenon is natural and not a cause for concern, especially if it was not present previously.
