DAMASCUS, March 24 (YPA) – Suwayda province in southern Syria has witnessed violent clashes between the National Guard forces and groups affiliated with the Interim Government forces, in a new violation of the ceasefire truce.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (ROHR), the Interim Government public security forces used heavy weaponry to strike positions near the “Wulga” area, prompting the National Guard to retaliate, with clashes rapidly spreading across the region.
The escalation comes just a day after similar clashes in the “Majdal” area of rural Suwayda, where heavy shelling by public security forces and allied Bedouin groups from the “Mazra’a” sector caused casualties on both sides, the Observatory reported.
The renewed violence highlights the fragility of ceasefire agreements in the province amid a complex security landscape and the presence of multiple armed factions, raising concerns that southern Syria could spiral into a broader cycle of violence.
