ADEN, March 11 (YPA) – Informed political sources have revealed that Saudi Arabia has issued an urgent summons to several senior Yemeni officials and leaders based in the southern city of Aden to travel to Riyadh, in a move observers say may be linked to ongoing regional developments.
According to the sources, Aden International Airport witnessed the departure of several prominent figures on Wednesday. Among those reported to have traveled to Riyadh were Presidential Leadership Council member Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, Defense Minister Taher Al-Aqili of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, along with a number of other officials.
The departures were described as an “urgent and unprecedented summons.”
The sources said the sudden travel to Riyadh came shortly after a meeting between Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi and US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin in the Saudi capital.
The meeting reportedly took place amid mounting regional tensions and increased diplomatic engagement by Washington with its regional partners.
According to the sources, discussions have included possible responses to evolving security dynamics in the region, particularly regarding tensions involving Iran.
Observers of Yemeni affairs suggest that the swift summoning of southern officials may be connected to these broader developments. The move also comes as regional tensions linked to the ongoing US–Israeli confrontation with Iran continue to escalate into their second week.
Pro-Saudi Yemeni media outlets reported that Al-Alimi told Ambassador Fagin during their meeting that the government was prepared to take “all necessary military, political, and security measures” in response to regional developments.
Analysts say the statement may reflect growing coordination between regional allies amid the unfolding crisis.
Nevertheless, the region appears to be entering a new phase of geopolitical realignment, with attention now focused on the outcome of the closed-door consultations taking place in Riyadh.
The central question raised by observers is whether the United States and Israel, through Saudi Arabia, will succeed in drawing Saudi-backed factions into a wider regional confrontation aimed at safeguarding their interests in the region?.
