Iran’s Assembly of Experts elects Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader

TEHRAN, March 09 (YPA) – The Iranian Assembly of Experts has officially announced the election of Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, following an extraordinary meeting and an overwhelming majority vote.

This decision aims to fill the leadership vacuum following the martyrdom of the former leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Assembly confirmed that the selection process was conducted under Articles 108 and 111 of the Constitution, despite what it described as “intense wartime conditions” and direct security threats that targeted the Assembly’s general secretariat offices.

The statement concluded with a call to the Iranian people and the academic elite to maintain national unity and pledge allegiance to the new leadership to ensure the country’s stability during this critical period.
