SANAA, March 3 (YPA) – Military developments in the region are taking a more dangerous turn after Israeli enemy announced the mobilization of approximately 100,000 reservists, signaling preparations to expand the scope of its ongoing operations.
The announcement comes amid intensifying clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli occupation , as well as the growing confrontations with Iran, raising fears that the escalation could spill beyond Lebanese and Iranian theaters into a broader regional conflict.
According to Israeli news site Walla, military intelligence units have begun a widespread call-up of reservists to prepare for the possibility of multiple operational fronts.
The measure reflects concerns that rapidly evolving battlefield conditions may require simultaneous engagements across different theaters.
“Israel” confirmed the mobilization on Sunday, framing it as part of an intensified operation dubbed “Roar of the Lion”, a campaign reflecting the continuing military pressure on Iran and its regional allies.
In a significant development on Monday, “Israel” described its campaign against Hezbollah as an “offensive battle”, urging citizens to prepare for several days of fighting — a signal that Israeli authorities anticipate a prolonged engagement.
Airstrikes on Lebanon Leave Dozens of Dead
On the ground, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon, killing 31 fatalities and injuring 149 , according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The scale of the attacks underscores the intensity of the current military escalation.
These strikes are part of a broader pattern of retaliatory exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel. While Israeli operations in southern Lebanon have intensified over recent months, the latest strikes represent an unprecedented escalation in both scale and ferocity.
Hezbollah Retaliates
In response, Hezbollah reported early-morning attacks on Israeli military sites using rockets and drones, framing the strikes as retaliation for ongoing Israeli operations in Lebanon and the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
This exchange signals a shift from warning shots and symbolic strikes to open confrontation, particularly in light of Israel’s large-scale reservist mobilization — a measure rarely undertaken unless authorities anticipate a wide or multi-front war.
Signs of a Wider Regional War
The mass reservist call-up, coupled with the offensive nature of the campaign and warnings of prolonged fighting, signals a shift from Israel’s usual containment strategy toward a potential multi-front military escalation.
Palestinian journalist Mohammed Youssef Shaheen told YPA that including intelligence, logistics, and air defense units in the mobilization reflects Israel’s concern over possible involvement of other regional actors, from Lebanon to theaters such as Iraq and Yemen.
With Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon intensifying and Hezbollah retaliating with rockets, the region faces a highly volatile situation. The path of this escalation will hinge on developments on the ground and decisions by regional and international players, raising fears of a broader Middle East conflict beyond Lebanon and Iran.
