GAZA, March 02 (YPA) – Hamas Movement condemned on Monday Israeli aggression against Lebanese territory, calling it a dangerous escalation and an ongoing violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
In a statement, the movement said the attacks represent a continuation of what it characterized as Israel’s broader policy of targeting countries across the region.
It held Israeli occupation fully responsible for the consequences of its military operations and escalating policies, particularly amid the widening confrontations along the northern front.
Hamas expressed full solidarity with Lebanon and its people, urging Arab and Islamic nations to enhance coordination and unity and to take concrete measures to halt Israeli actions that it said threaten regional security and stability.
The statement comes as southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs witness heightened military activity, with continued Israeli airstrikes and cross-border exchanges of fire.
Early Monday, the Israeli military carried out a series of airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and areas in southern Lebanon, killing 52 people and injuring more than 154 others, according to local sources. The strikes took place despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since November 2024.
In response, Hezbollah announced that it had launched volleys of rockets toward towns in northern Israel, stating that the action was retaliatory and describing it as a defensive measure amid ongoing Israeli military operations.
The escalation marks the latest development in sustained tensions along the Lebanese front since the outbreak of war in October 2023, which resulted in thousands of casualties before expanding into a broader confrontation in September 2024.
Although the ceasefire agreement that entered into force in November 2024, both sides continue to exchange accusations of repeated violations, while tensions persist in several border areas.
