ADEN, Feb. 24 (YPA) – Aden-based Independent TV has been threatened with closure by pro-Saudi actors over its editorial stance criticizing the Saudi presence in southern and eastern Yemen.
Sources familiar with the matter in Aden said that factions aligned with Riyadh contacted the channel’s management, affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), urging it to tone down its critical rhetoric.
The management reportedly rejected the request, affirming its commitment to freedom of expression under local and international law and denying that it receives directives from any external party regarding its editorial policy.
The sources warned that the factions could resort to forcibly shutting down the station if no agreement is reached over its media approach.
Aden TV has been resumed broadcasting from Aden last Sunday after a suspension lasting several weeks, amid concerns about potential restrictive measures by pro-Saudi groups.
