EU gets ready to support any serious diplomatic effort on Iran’s nuclear program
GAZA, Feb. 20 (YPA) -The official spokesperson of the European Commission, Anouar El Anouni, stated that Brussels was getting prepared to back any credible diplomatic initiative concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
According to the official Iranian news agency, El Anouni said during a press conference in Brussels on Friday that the European Union remains in close contact with the United States of America, both through bilateral channels and within the Group of Seven framework.
He added that the EU’s High Representative has held several discussions with regional counterparts and urged a reduction of tensions between the United States and Iran.
El Anouni emphasized that the EU is engaging with all relevant stakeholders and stands ready to support any genuine diplomatic effort.
He stressed the importance of giving diplomacy a meaningful opportunity, reaffirming the bloc’s view that a sustainable resolution to Iran’s nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiations.
Meanwhile, the second round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States—facilitated by the Oman—took place in Geneva last week. Reports suggest progress was made, with both sides reaching a general understanding on a set of guiding principles.
The process of narrowing differences and drafting the text of a potential agreement has now entered a new phase.
