RIYADH, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia on Thursday set conditions for a truce with the UAE, coinciding with the start of US-Israeli efforts to de-escalate tensions between them.
In an article published by the official Al-Jazirah newspaper, edited by Khaled Al-Malik, Saudi Arabia affirmed its insistence on the UAE’s approval to withdraw its support from Yemen, particularly the south, justifying the request by stating that Yemen is not on the UAE’s borders, does not pose any threat to it, and it has no interest in being part of its problem.
Saudi Arabia stressed the need for the UAE to officially announce its abandonment of its objectives in Yemen. It also stipulated the withdrawal of support for separatists in Somalia and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.
These Saudi conditions come on the eve of reports that US Congressman Lindsey Graham is scheduled to visit Riyadh following his visit to the UAE. Graham is attempting to bridge the gap between the Emirati president and the Saudi crown prince.
