Secret prison network in Aden expanded following torture allegations

ADEN, Feb. 13 (YPA) – A security source told the Sons of Aden platform that unusual and covert movements were underway within the security apparatus in Aden, in what appears to be an effort to obscure evidence related to alleged abuses against detainees and forcibly disappeared persons.

The developments came in the wake of the case of Abdulrahman, which reignited international attention on allegations of torture inside secret detention facilities.

According to the source, direct orders were issued by Emirati officers to urgently transfer detainees from the controversial Wadah Hall facility and redistribute them across a newly established network of secret prisons.

Some of these locations are reportedly underground, allegedly to ensure complete isolation from monitoring or inspection.

The source said the directives were conveyed to Yusran al-Maqtari, who subsequently instructed his forces to carry out the immediate evacuation and relocation of detainees outside any formal legal or judicial framework.

These rapid measures, the source added, reflect growing concerns among Emirati officials that the issue of secret detention sites could be fully exposed.

The source further alleged that several forcibly disappeared individuals may have died inside detention, with claims that their burial sites were concealed to prevent evidence from surfacing.

The information suggests that the deteriorating physical condition of detainees—reportedly bearing visible signs of severe mistreatment—may be a key factor behind the latest moves, amid fears that documented evidence could trigger widespread international condemnation.
